I'm not sure of the year I painted this.

This is one of the largest paintings I've ever done. This piece was inspired by a beautiful Mexican statue of Satan crucified that I saw while on a fishing trip in Mexico. The original statue was one of the best examples of turn of the century, (20th century), Mexican religious folk art I've ever seen. It was not for sale for any price. The statue also had a huge erect penis! I'd never seen anything like it.

Of course, I've gotten a few stupid comments about this piece being sacrilegious. I think it works perfectly with Jesus / Satan Christian war concept. Evidently the old dead Mexican who carved the statue thought so too. This reminds me of something Hieronymous Bosch would come up with ... Perhaps something Lucifer would do for kicks on a boring Sabbath afternoon in Hell ... Yea, it's blasphemous ... The devil would be, right? So, here it is ... Satan doing what he does best, mocking Jesus. If it upsets you ... please let me know! I also have a portrait of Jesus that may perturb you. I suggest you pray about it.
